
SumUp is a payment service provider for card payments, mobile payments, and online payments. In Travelmanager, SumUp can be used for on-site payments, Tap to Pay, and online payments.

SumUp can be used in Travelmanager in several ways: as card payment in the TicketApp, through a SumUp cloud terminal, with Tap to Pay on iPhone, or as an online payment method. The appropriate setup depends on whether you want to accept payments on site, on mobile devices, or in the online shop.

Recommended Setup Order

- Decide whether you want to use a classic SumUp device, a cloud terminal, or Tap to Pay.
- Activate the corresponding payment method in the Travelmanager backend.
- Always perform a test payment before productive use.
Setting Up the SumUp Merchant Account
Before you can use SumUp payments in Travelmanager, you need a SumUp merchant account. After that, connect the account with Travelmanager and activate the required payment method for your app or point of sale.
Creating a Merchant Account
- Create a merchant account on the SumUp website.
- Enter the required company and contact data.
- Add your bank account details.
- Confirm the information and complete the registration.
After the account has been created, you can connect it in the Travelmanager backend under System > Payment methods.
Checklist for SumUp Devices
- Make sure your SumUp account has been created and connected with Travelmanager.
- Enable the payment method
Card paymentin Travelmanager. - Configure SumUp as the checkout for this payment method.
- Enable the payment method for the TicketApp.
- Enable Bluetooth and location services on the iOS device.
- For SumUp Solo devices, make sure the terminal is not operated in standalone mode.

Card Payments with SumUp in the TicketApp
With SumUp, you can accept card payments directly in the Travelmanager TicketApp. You need a SumUp account, a compatible card reader, and the SumUp configuration in the Travelmanager backend.

Requirements
- You have a SumUp account.
- A compatible SumUp card reader is available.
- You have access to the developer settings of your SumUp account.
- You can edit payment methods for the TicketApp in the Travelmanager backend.
Preparing SumUp
- Create an account at
sumup.deif you do not already have access. - Order and activate the required card reader.
- Open the developer settings in SumUp.
- Store the app ID
software.seaways.ticketapp. - Copy the generated affiliate key.
Configuring Travelmanager
- Open the payment method configuration in the Travelmanager backend.
- Activate SumUp for the TicketApp.
- Enter the affiliate key from the SumUp developer settings.
- Save the configuration.
- Restart the TicketApp to ensure the setting is applied.


Performing a Test Payment
After setup, perform a test payment in the TicketApp. Select the payment method Card payment. During first use, you will be asked to log in with your SumUp username and password.
When the terminal appears, connect it with the TicketApp and complete the payment. Then check whether the payment has been posted correctly in SumUp and Travelmanager.
Card Payment Process
The SumUp hardware connects to your iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth. The card validation itself is performed online. The mobile device therefore needs a stable internet connection during payment.
The payment process usually works as follows:
- The TicketApp transfers the amount to SumUp.
- The SumUp device is addressed via Bluetooth.
- The card or wallet is read.
- SumUp validates the payment online.
- After successful payment, the booking process is completed in the TicketApp.
For stable operation, an available Wi-Fi connection is recommended in addition to the mobile network.
Amount Transfer via iOS Devices
The amount is transferred to SumUp through iOS devices.

Please note:
- Tap to Pay is used only on supported iPhones.
- One SumUp account can be used on multiple devices.
- Bluetooth and location services must be enabled on the iOS device.
- An internet connection is required for payment validation.
Setting Up the SumUp Cloud Terminal
With a SumUp cloud terminal, you can connect a SumUp Solo device directly to a point of sale in Travelmanager. Amounts are then sent from the sale to the terminal.
Cloud Terminal Requirements
- The SumUp Solo device is set up and connected to Wi-Fi.
- You have access to the Travelmanager backend.
- You have the SumUp merchant code.
- You have created a secret API key in the SumUp Developer Tools.
Storing Credentials in Travelmanager
Open System > Payment methods > SumUp > Cloud Terminal in the Travelmanager backend. Enter the credentials from your SumUp account:
- SumUp merchant code, which is your customer number.
- SumUp secret API key from the Developer Tools.


Preparing SumUp Solo
Connect the SumUp Solo to Wi-Fi. Do not log in to the Solo device with a user account, because otherwise the API connection is not available.
Swipe down from the top edge of the start screen to open the menu. Then select Connections.


In the Connections area, open API. Select Connect so that a pairing code is displayed on the SumUp Solo.


Write down the pairing code shown on the Solo device. It is required in Travelmanager in the next step.
Connecting the Solo Terminal in Travelmanager
- Open the device list in the Travelmanager backend.
- Add a new device.
- Enter the pairing code of the SumUp Solo device.
- Use a clear name so that the device can be identified later.
- Click
Add device. - Wait until the page has reloaded.


Assigning a Point of Sale
After adding the device, it appears in the device list. Select the point of sale through which the terminal should be addressed.
Activating Amount Transfer
For the payment method Card payment, activate the use of the PHCOM Cash protocol. After that, the configured SumUp device is addressed for all sales using Card payment through the assigned point of sale.

After setup, perform a test booking with the payment method Card payment. Check whether the amount is transferred correctly to the SumUp Solo device and whether the payment is completed in Travelmanager.
Tap to Pay on iPhone
With Tap to Pay on iPhone, you can accept contactless payments directly through the TicketApp. No additional card reader is required.
Tap to Pay Checklist
- Make sure your SumUp account has been created and connected with Travelmanager.
- Enable the payment method
Card paymentand configure SumUp as the checkout. - Enable
Tap to Payas well. - Enable Bluetooth and location services on the iPhone.
- Protect the iPhone with a device passcode.
- In the Travelmanager TicketApp, perform a one-time 1 euro test payment under
More > Tap to Pay. - After a successful test payment, Tap to Pay can be used on this device.
Tap to Pay is available only on supported iPhones. iPads are not supported for Tap to Pay.
Error 403 with Tap to Pay
If you receive error code 403 while setting up Tap to Pay through SumUp, permissions or account approval are usually missing in the SumUp account being used.
Possible Causes
- The required payment permissions for Tap to Pay are not enabled in the SumUp account.
- The account being used is a sub-account with restricted permissions.
- Certification or approval for Tap to Pay has not yet been completed.
Checks
- Check in the SumUp account whether the payment scope for Tap to Pay is enabled.
- Test with the main account if you have been using a sub-account.
- Check whether Tap to Pay has been fully activated by SumUp.
- Repeat the setup in the TicketApp.
If the error persists, SumUp should check whether the account has been approved for Tap to Pay.
Online Payment
SumUp can also be used for online payments during the booking process. The platform supports several payment methods and provides central transaction management.

Benefits of online payments with SumUp:
- The payment is offered directly during online booking.
- SumUp supports multiple payment methods.
- Transactions can be tracked in the SumUp dashboard.
- The integration is suitable for customers who already use SumUp for on-site payments.
Cancellation and Refund
When a ticket is cancelled, the refund can often be processed automatically through SumUp. After cancellation, check in the SumUp dashboard whether the refund has actually been triggered.

Checking the Refund
- Open the SumUp dashboard.
- Search for the affected transaction.
- Check whether a refund has been triggered.
- Review the refund status.
If No Refund Is Processed
If no automatic refund is visible after the ticket cancellation, several causes are possible:
- The refund has not yet been processed by SumUp.
- The transaction does not meet the requirements for an automatic refund.
- There is a technical delay or error at SumUp.
In this case, check the transaction directly in the SumUp dashboard. If the dashboard does not provide clear information, clarify the transaction with SumUp support.
Resetting SumUp Devices
Reset a SumUp device if the Bluetooth connection is unreliable or the terminal is no longer paired correctly with the TicketApp.
Preparation
- Disable the Bluetooth connection on the iPhone if the SumUp device is connected.
- Fully close the TicketApp to stop old connection attempts.
- Make sure the card terminal is not charging during the reset.
Resetting the Device
- Hold the power button on the card terminal for about 3 seconds until the device turns off.
- Hold the power button again until
Release for BTappears on the display and a beep is heard. - Release the power button.
- Wait for the second beep. This confirms that Bluetooth pairing has been reset.
Checking the Connection Again
After the reset, connect the device with the TicketApp again. Then perform a test payment to confirm that pairing works.
To turn the SumUp device off later in normal operation, hold the power button for about 3 seconds.
SumUp SDK Error Codes
